I’m a big fan of Sony’s HD XDCam work flow but when I first started to work with the imported files I got frustrated with having to open each clip independently to view the files. (When working with tape I usually digitize in bulk under a single clip file and then make subclips from the larger clip)  So to speed up my workflow after the import, I drag all of my HD XDcam clips into a sequence timeline.  I scroll through these clips in my sequence, find the shot I want, place the play head over that shot then load the original clip into the viewer with the “F” key or match frame button.  Then I trim my shot, tab over to my “Program sequence” and then drop the shot into my timeline.  When I’ve got hundreds of clips and don’t want to bother labeling each and every one, I believe this workflow is most efficient and speeds up my editing big-time!
